About RoHS Compliance RoHS, or Restriction of Hazardous Substances is a directive enacted by the European Union in 2002 requiring all new electronic devices to meet a specific set of environmental standards by July 1, 2006. RoHS is often referred to as the "lead-free" directive.
RoHS is not a law; rather, it is a directive which restricts the use of six specific hazardous materials in the manufacture of various types of electronic and electrical equipment.
